In 1985, Mike Godfrey (CEO) at the tender age of 30 formed the Company of Amvale Ltd, which is now a household name within the NHS and Local Authorities. On the outset Amvale was primarily a motor trade business with vehicle sales and rentals. It didn’t take long for Mike to Identify local transport needs within the surrounding Councils. At this point it was evident that a niche market was found. Mike had identified that transport for children with disabilities was in dire need of improvement and there was little or no investment in this area.
Subsequently, Amvale formed a Special Needs Transport division based in Scunthorpe - North Lincolnshire, providing high standards of vehicle safety for children with a focus on seat belts, wheelchair securing and reliability. This then progressed to designing “The Assurance Safety Bus” which eventually was procured by the local council for direct usage. Of course now, vehicles by law are very safe, unlike many years ago when safety was in its infancy and as such we are proud to have
been a part of this evolution. As part of our hard work to give the best and safest transport for children, Amvale were voted “Britain’s Safest Fleet” at the National Fleet Awards. They are also winners of the "Business of Excellence" award for North Lincolnshire by the Chamber of Commerce.
Many years ago, it was from our good reputation in Lincolnshire and Humberside that we were approached by our local hospitals to provide a Patient Transport Services (PTS) and since then this still continues today, with many local people being employed within this service. In addition, since 1998 we
have provided transport for Bloods, Human Organs and National Organ Retrieval Teams
for the United Kingdom with Transport for Transplant. Consequently, Mike made the decision to make a large investment in these areas and it was not long before we became heavily involved in both PTS and Transport for Transplant. It is with great pride that we continue to provide these services to NHS Trust's and Hospitals for transport requirements for land, air and sea in the United Kingdom.
Over the years Amvale has also expanded into other areas including Paramedic Ambulances, Emergency Department Support, Mental Health Transport, Secure Transport, Emergency Medical Teams, Hospital Call Control, Medical Training, Coaches and other Motor Trade activities. This is why in 1998 Amvale Medical Transport Limited was evolved, as a separate part of the Amvale Ltd group, and now celebrating more than 20 years of business independently. In December 2019, Amvale Medical Transport Ltd expanded their business to include another Ambulance Station located in Glasgow, known as Amvale Scotland Ltd.
Mike Godfrey is always looking at transport related areas that need improvement and we are sure that the adventure will continue as his quest for safe reliable transport continues.
We are proud to have been a part of this journey over all these years and have seen hundreds of employees obtain work locally and nationally due to the success of Amvale.
